Which Champions Still Win From Behind?

Some champions look powerful because they crush games once they get ahead.

Others are different: they still find wins from bad lane states, weak early gold, or rough openings. Those are the real scaling or comeback profiles.

This notebook looks for champions that outperform their role baseline even when they're down 1000+ gold at 10 minutes.

Method

For each champion in one role, we'll compare:

• ahead_wr: win rate when the champion is +1000 gold at 10
• behind_wr: win rate when the champion is -1000 gold at 10
• snowball_edge_pp: how much the champion converts leads better than the role average
• comeback_edge_pp: how much the champion wins from behind better than the role average

That lets us separate true comeback champions from champions that simply look amazing in already-won positions.

The comeback chart answers the main question, but it's worth zooming into one champion to see what "winning from behind" looks like in lane-state terms.

We'll take the top comeback profile and break its games into five buckets from heavily ahead to heavily behind at 10 minutes.

Verdict

There are two different kinds of "strong" champion:

• champions that turn a lead into a stomp
• champions that stay alive in the game tree even after a rough first 10 minutes

This notebook is trying to isolate the second kind.
